Shipping Coordinator II

DriSteem currently has an opening for Shipping Coordinator II, first shift. We are looking for someone who can see opportunities and wants to make a difference as part of a growing team.

Position Summary:

Pulls, packs, and coordinates the shipment of product (may be small or large packaging) in a manner that ensures the timely delivery, while providing optimum service of undamaged products at proper destinations in accordance with DriSteem’s quality standards as well as meeting or exceeding the customer’s expectations.

Responsibilities:

Leads, coordinates and performs daily activities of team members in the Shipping Department to achieve established goals and objectives related to Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost, while fostering a culture of mutual respect, standard work and continuous improvement.

  • Directs and leads employees in the safe and accurate execution of their role
  • Organizes and schedules work to best utilize skills, knowledge and experience in order to obtain the most favorable group performance
  • Provides daily participation in and support of Safety/Loss Control activities by maintaining safe working conditions, enforcing safe work behaviors, instilling safety awareness, participating in investigating incidents and implementing corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
  • Coordinates quality control and inspection procedures within the area in order to assure conformance to (internal and external) customer specifications
  • Monitors system entries and transactions to insure accuracy and timeliness

Prepare product for shipment to include staging, packaging and processing sales orders in an organized manner to ensure high quality. Confirm correct packaging, and proper quantities are shipped.

Provide quotations and/or estimations of approximate freight charges to Customer Service/Sales Support department as requested.

Assign the appropriate transportation company based on the optimum service and price when the established shipping guidelines are not applicable. Communicate with freight carriers via phone, email, and internet portals.

Arrange for freight pickup and generates bills of lading and other required paperwork for domestic and international shipments using DriSteem or customer specified carriers.

Prepare shipping documents, labels, commercial invoices, N.A.F.T.A. Certificates, and Bill of Ladings in designated shipping software program, as well as any other required documentation. Ensures shipping paperwork is completed properly and accurately.

Communicate internally to resolve issues and answer questions in regards to orders. Communicate status of order shipment, shipment specification or any other requested information.

Support continual compliance with ISO 9001 standards and procedures.

Ensure work area is maintained in a neat and orderly condition. Ensure shipping department supplies and products are ordered and properly placed in designated locations.

Keep manager informed of job-related problems and other information related to work activity.

Complies with any/all company safety and health rules and policies and promotes safe work practices. Report any safety concerns to a supervisor/manager.

Performs related work as apparent or assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school education or GED certificate.
  • 3+ years of experience in a related Shipping environment ideally in a Manufacturing setting.
  • Forklift experience or must be able to pass forklift certification.
  • International shipping experience preferred.
  • Intermediate level of math preferred.
  • Ability to utilize computer system and software as it relates to shipping documentation.
  • Displays a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn and grow.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees as well as external vendors.
  • Experience with Microsoft computer software such as email, Excel and Word. Comfortable using the Internet.
  • Beginner level mechanical experience utilizing equipment related to Shipping.
  • Strong ability to make decisions with minimum supervision.
  • Strong team player, work independently as well as possessing the ability to work independently when required.
  • Excellent organizational skills required – the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, possess flexibility in a changing work environment as well as multi task.
  • Experience preferred to have experience to receive inbound freight and supplies verifying product, quality, quantity and weight.
  • Cycle counting experience a plus.
