Manufacturing Engineer

We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Operations team in Eden Prairie, MN.

Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer helps develop and improve manufacturing processes through evaluating product manufacturability and process flow.  Key responsibilities include continuous improvement, manufacturing process development, safety and QMS compliance.  The Manufacturing Engineer is well versed in lean manufacturing principles as well as 5S processes.  The Manufacturing Engineer works collaboratively with Engineering, Marketing and Operations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing process in support of continuous improvement/lean objectives with operations personnel and production management.
  • Provides support in the implementation of key lean manufacturing methodologies such as 5S, JIT, SMED.
  • Leads and supports formal kaizen activities directed at continuous improvement.
  • Support Production in reducing/eliminating equipment and tooling downtime or scrap, utilizing good analytical methodologies.
  • Support and maintain error-proofing methodologies.
  • Values professional and technical growth by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.


Manufacturing Process Development

  • Provides manufacturing support related to process development directed at:
    • Manufacturing cell and work place design
    • Design for manufacturability
    • Develop processes to meet or exceed the expectations of quality, cost and throughput
    • Equipment development/justification
    • Cost effective process development/documentation
    • Tooling development and procurement
    • Development of labor standards
    • Packaging design 


General Responsibilities

  • Safety: Ensure all processes are safe for employees, ergonomically correct and comply with OSHA requirements.
  • Quality: Continuously strive for product and process improvements that meet or exceed our customer requirements as well as being compliant with ISO 9001-2015 policies.
  • Compliance: Ensures all processes are compliant to all regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor the cost and effectiveness of activities to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and achieve timeliness, reliability, and safety standards.
  • Work with external vendors as needed.
  • Projects are completed accurately, safely, and on time.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a directly applicable role
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication manufacturing and assembly
  • Proven experience in effective lean manufacturing practices and tools.
  • 2 years of AutoCAD experience required
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing/mechanical processes and equipment
  • Knowledge of computer or PLC based machine control systems is desirable
  • Strong skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly
