Chemical Feed System

DriSteem Chemical Feed System

Chemical feed systems are used for the modification of water in many processes. The reasons to use chemical include corrosion protection, disinfection removal, dissolved solid management, disinfection, and process related characteristics need. Chemical feed systems are the means in which we add chemicals to the water system. The systems include a chemical metering pump and accessories, such as, back-pressure valve, pressure regulation/relief, control cables, injection quill, foot valve, and check valves.

Anti-Scalant

Anti-scalant is used to modify the scale potential by increasing the total dissolved solids (TDS) solubility. The anti-scalant polymer is fed via a metering pump upstream of an RO system in lieu of using a traditional softener. Instead of exchanging the cationic components, in the water, we are allowing those chemistries the ability to concentrate further. The polymer is easily rejected into the concentrate stream of the RO due to the large molecular weight.

Sodium Metabisulfite

Sodium metabisulfite is the chemistry used in lieu of a dechlorinator (also known as activated carbon filter). This chemistry is used for a few things but as it relates to our offering, we are using this chemistry for a reduction reaction with disinfection products, added at municipalities. The “why” to removing disinfection products are due to membrane compatibility and life. The membranes in the RO systems are susceptible to degradation from low levels to oxidants.

Water Testing Best Practices

To learn more about the proper techniques for water testing, watch our Water Testing Video Mini-series. These videos demonstrate techniques for accurate tests of water conductivity, pH level, total hardness, chlorides, and several other things that have a huge impact on any equipment that uses or treats water.
